Frisco Foot DoctorAny kind of pain in your foot should be cause for immediate concern. As the foundation of your whole skeletal structure, any discomfort you feel will likely cause you to compensate in some way. This can result in future problems in the rest of your body from your knees and hips, all the way up to your back. In this blog post, we want to look at pain in the “ball” of the foot. This is called the “metatarsal” region and it is located near the front of your foot but behind your toes on the pad of your foot. Pain in this area can be caused by a number of issues that we’ll explore here. But if you’re having pain in the ball of your foot that lasts more than a couple days, it’s time to call a foot doctor. Frisco patients can avoid a number of very serious issues by getting the discomfort handled early. Call Dr. Verville today at (214) 385-8822 to get started. You can also check out our Reviews page to see some of the glowing things our patients have to say about their experience with the best foot doctor in the area, Dr. Verville.

Common Causes of Ball-of-Foot Pain

Not all ball-of-foot pain requires the attention of a foot doctor. Frisco patients that spend a day on their feet may notice some pain in the region that will likely subside the next day. But if pain persists for several days, it is probably a good idea to see a podiatrist.

  • Foot arch – Patients that have flat feet or a high arch in their foot may experience pain in the ball of their feet. The reason is that these foot shapes put abnormal pressure on the metatarsal bones that support your toes.
  • Toe issues – Deformities like hammer toe (permanent bend in the middle joint) or mallet toe (permanent bend in the third joint behind the toenail) can cause pain in the ball of the foot. Also, bunions (painful growths on the sides of toes) can contribute to it.
  • Neuroma – Another very serious cause of ball-of-foot pain is something called Morton’s neuroma. This is a benign growth of nerve tissue in the ball of the foot that causes tingling, numbness, and pain and should be treated by a foot doctor. Frisco patients should take neuroma very seriously because it can feel very much like a pinched nerve.
  • High heels – The shape of high heels pushes all of your weight onto the ball of your feet which can cause pain.
