Whether you play pick-up ball on the weekends, you’re a casual golfer, you run every single day, or you’re just an active person, you’re more than likely using your feet and ankles in some way. Being active is fabulous for your health but if you’ve started to notice any pain in your knees, feet, hips, or ankles that is the result of your hobby or exercise–it’s probably a good idea to get it checked out by a sports podiatrist. Frisco patients often come into our offices with sports-related injuries that could have been healed much sooner if they had just called RNV Podiatry.
Dr. Verville is one of the sports podiatrists in all of Texas. While she has over 1,500 elective and traumatic foot surgeries, Dr. Verville always attempts to treat her patients with conservative, non-surgical methods first. Dr. Verville has built her practice on carefully listening to her patients and developing treatment plans together that fit your unique needs and situation. Call us today at (214) 385-8822.
What Is a Sports Podiatrist?
Frisco patients sometimes ask us what Dr. Verville does as a sports podiatrist. We always love answering this question because it gives us a chance to talk about how incredible she is.
Podiatry, in general, is the medical practice of treating the foot, ankle, and leg. This can include everything from arthritis, corns, athlete’s foot, and bunions to fractures, sprains, bruises, ingrown toenails, and everything in between.
But when it comes to talking about a sports podiatrist specifically, Frisco patients will usually come to Dr. Verville for treatment of an injury that has already occurred from some kind of exercise or activity. However, in some cases, sports podiatrists will recommend methods to prevent injuries before they even happen.
What Are the Qualifications of a Sports Podiatrist?
To become a sports podiatrist, Dr. Verville first had to complete an undergraduate program, which she did at the University of Minnesota Duluth where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology.
From there, Dr. Verville then had to complete 4 years of schooling at a podiatric medical school. Dr. Verville graduated from Des Moines University – College of Podiatric Medicine & Surgery where she got her Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine, which is where the “DPM” acronym comes from.
But that’s not all. After completing medical school, podiatrists then need to complete 3 years of hospital residency. Dr. Verville completed 3 years at Detroit Medical Center (DMC), which also holds a Level I Trauma Hospital. But Dr. Verville also received extensive orthopedic trauma and surgical training at Detroit Receiving Hospital and also pediatric orthopedic surgical training at Children’s Hospital of Michigan by nationally recognized surgeons.
Additionally, many podiatrists continue to get training and education to stay on the cutting edge in their fields. Dr. Verville regularly travels to San Francisco, Chicago, and San Antonio to undergo training workshops.
When Should I See a Sports Podiatrist?
Frisco patients should contact Dr. Verville the moment they notice any pain in their feet or ankles. However, our feet have an enormous impact on other parts of our bodies, including the hips and even our shoulders. If you’re experiencing pain in your hips or even your low back, a sports podiatrist could be able to help determine if the cause of that issue is related to your feet.
How to Get Started
First of all, if you have any questions about our practice, treatment plans, or what we do in general, please don’t hesitate to call us. We absolutely love hearing from our potential patients who want to learn more about what exactly a sports podiatrist is. Frisco patients can call us and speak with one of our dedicated and friendly staff members. We spend a good part of our day answering questions, talking to our patients about their concerns, and scheduling appointments.
Now, after you call, the next step is for you to make an appointment to come in and see Dr. Verville in person. This preliminary meeting lets Dr. Verville hear about your condition, learn more about your medical history, and perform an evaluation. Using the details of this first visit, Dr. Verville will then create a customized treatment plan just for you. This plan will help her lay out what she thinks is the next step to get you back up and running–literally.
If you’re having any pain or issues with your feet, ankles, gait, or even your legs, make sure that you call Dr. Verville at (214) 385-8822.
